TELEMACHUS AND MENTOR - Maria Chaniou’s jewellery made with silver coated safety pins is an art statement on a noble friendship.
Telemachus’ search for his missing father poses a threat to the suitors’ abuse of power who try to kill him. But Mentor supports and protects him to find his way out.
Empowered by the adventure, Telemachus returns to Ithaca desiring nothing less than ascend his father’s throne.
Maria Chaniou, a Political Science graduate and a former banker, went through the Odyssey of a joyless career which, nevertheless, taught her to seek fulfillment in what really matters to her, namely art. Her jewellery combines a strong visual reference to Mycenean ornaments with a humorous post-punk touch. She has participated in various group exhibitions in Greece.
