SMCK MAGAZINE

SMCK Magazine is a contemporary jewelry, applied arts and crafts magazine Christoph Ziegler and Loukia Richards founded in 2020.
The magazine serves as a platform for indie artists as well as gallerists, curators, institutions. It aims to build a bridge between art and craft disciplines, discuss contemporary social practices and make artists aware of art market rules and practices.

SMCK ON REEL

SMCK On Reel is the first international video festival inspired by jewelry and wearable art.
The festival introduces the public to the artist's world, concepts and thoughts, and explores themes such as memory and identity, environmental pollution and consumerism, political and social issues.
The festival is curated by SMCK Magazine.

CURATORIAL WORK

INITIATION

Initiation is an exhibition series inspired by Greek spirituality and art traditions. The shows follow a specialized Artist-In-Residence program in Athens. More than hundred international artists participated in Initiation exhibitions in Munich and Amsterdam from 2017 to 2021. The project is curated by Christoph Ziegler and Loukia Richards.

MYTHS

Myths is a jewelry art exhibitions series inspired by Greek mythology. The exhibitions took place in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, and Amsterdam from 2013 to 2016. The project was curated by Christoph Ziegler and Loukia Richards.

ASSIGNED PROJECTS

METAMORPHOSES

Metamorphoses, transfigurations, and mutations as mind-opening revelations can be found in many religions, art, and literary traditions.
The exhibition Metamorphoses presented twenty contemporary jewelry artists and designers at Bayerischer Kunstgewerbeverein in Munich in 2022. The show was curated by Christoph Ziegler and Loukia Richards.

WERT/VOLL

The double exhibition WERT/voll presented twenty international artists and jewelry designers who work with organic, recycled and ethically correct materials. Two exhibitions took place at the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) in Dessau and at the Grassi Museum of Applied Arts in Leipzig in 2019. The project was funded by the UBA.

CAMP EXODUS

Built on Berlin’s former death strip that once divided East and West Germany, Camp Exodus temporarily occupied the Skulpturenpark Berlin_Zentrum in the summer of 2009. The installation project became a gathering point for ideas, dreams, and utopias.

Camp Exodus also served as a platform for artists, researchers, and architects focused on urban transformation and alternative ways of living, offering them a space to experiment within the urban environment.

WIND MACHINE

Wind Machine explores the production and consumption of renewable energy. The installation was created in 2011 as part of the "Kraftwerk" project grant awarded by Stiftung Künstlerdorf Schöppingen. Its aim was to visualize the process of energy consumption.

In the same year, Wind Machine was nominated for the Hamburg Art Grant and exhibited at Kunsthaus Hamburg.

KIOSK/free

The kiosk installation served as a temporary platform for public lectures, performances, and artistic activities at Sendlinger-Tor-Platz in Munich. It was part of the art project Kioskfree (2011) by Achim Sauter.
The installation was constructed with salvaged materials and scrap wood collected in Munich.

FAVELAB

FaveLAB is an Athens residency program launched in 2017 to enable cultural exchange and dialogue between Greece, Germany and the international art scene.
