CHRISTOPH ZIEGLER

ABOUT ME

cz

My work is rooted in the concept of recycling, in transforming forgotten objects and giving them new value and new meaning.
Over two decades, my artistic journey has encompassed a variety of disciplines: graphic art, collage, sculpture, installation, art in public place, and performance. Since 2015, jewelry is part of my practice, thanks to my partner Loukia Richards who inspired me to create wearable art.

The connection between the human body and its habitat — shaped by our domestic environment, by architecture, and by urban spaces — is central to my artistic practice.
From 2010 to 2019, my project Moebling focused on the interplay between the human body and objects, particularly household items. Moebling features self-portraits, ephemeral sculptures, and performances presented in diverse contexts, such as urban streets, hotel rooms, and staged environments.

My personal interest in social dynamics and the interaction between art and the public has also inspired a series of life-size installation projects in public spaces (2009–2017), including Camp Exodus, Kiosk, and The Utopian Institute.

Since 2013, I collaborate with Loukia Richards on a wide range of projects, including exhibitions and educational programs, curatorial work, SMCK Magazine, and the SMCK On Reel video festival.

The art and curatorial projects were commissioned by the Federal Agency for the Environment (UBA), Hamburger Kulturstiftung, Bauhaus Foundation Dessau, Grassi Museum Leipzig, Thikwa Theater, Bayerischer Kunstgewerbeverein, Gauloises Variété Liberté, Open Museum Hamburg etc.
From 2003 to the present, I had solo shows and participated in group art exhibitions in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Dresden, Leipzig, Weimar, Amsterdam, Athens, Marseille, Skopje.
