WIND MACHINE

The Wind Machine was a kinetic installation created during the Artist-in-Residence program Kraftwerk at Künstlerdorf Schöppingen in 2011. The work was nominated for the Hamburg Art Grant in the same year. The installation explored modes of production and consumption in the context of sustainable wind energy.

A large motor-powered tube drew in air from the exhibition space, consuming a significant amount of electricity—ironically generated by so-called “wind energy,” i.e. wind turbines. Ultimately, The Wind Machine produced just enough wind to gently stir a small banner.
